250 Bag Governor’s Overseas Scholarship
Not less than 250 successful candidates for the 2012/2013 Rivers Governors Special Overseas Scholarship will depart the country this September for the pogramme.
The Executive Director of the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) Mr. Noble who said this at a briefing in his office noted that, the affected students will be departing the country for their A level programme.
Mr Pepple said that, the Agency does not compromise in the selection process, stressing that only the best candidates in each of the local Government Areas are given opportunity for the programme.
He also said that, apart from giving opportunities to indigenes, ten percent of the programme are given to non indigenes residents in the state
The Executive Director said that the programme which gulps billions of naira was part of the Governor Amaechi Administration’s commitment towards manpower development for the state.
He urged the successful candidates to make the best of their opportunities, stressing that the Agency will not hesitate to send any one of them who misbehaved back to the country. Mr pepple later told Journalists that the briefing was organised to provide opportunity for interaction between the Agency, parents and the candidates with the view to enlightening them on the processes involved in the selection.
Also speaking, Mr Nnodim Michael a parent, described the process as very transparent, noting that it is an indication that things are beginning to be done right in the society.
Mr Michael who is a civil servant also commended Governor Amaechi for the programme stressing that it has given opportunities to a number of children from poor homes to have quality education.
Also speaking, another parent Mrs Power Angelin Lucky Ihuoma also commended the Government for the programme and urged for it to be sustained.

Education Commissioner Seeks media collaboration in Rivers
The River State Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor has called on media practitioners in Rivers State to deploy their various communication platforms toward promoting government programmes and policies aimed at achieving sustainable development in the education sector. Dr. Nwagor made the appeal when members of the Etche Ethnic Practicing Journalists (EEPJ) paid him a courtesy visit in Office in Port Harcourt. The Commissioner emphasized the strategic role of the media in shaping public perception, promoting government initiatives, and supporting policies capable of improving the quality of education and human capital development in the state.
