Phone Repairers Seek Govt’s Partnership
The Mobile Phones, Accessories and Repairers Association (MPARA) in Port Harcourt is seeking Rivers State Government’s partnership in a bid to upgrade its services.
The chairman of the association, Kelechi Achonulo, said this last Tuesday while fielding questions from journalists in Port Harcourt.
He said the partnership would enable them to send some of their members abroad on phone repairs skills, as they are still finding it difficult to repair some phones.
Achonulo, noted that most cell phones from China and other countries were not easy to repair saying that such phones are always sent back to those countries for refurbishing.
According to him, the association is also into training of would-be phone repairers.
The phone mechanic hinted that trainees were grouped four persons per table with an instructor to drill them on all the necessary aspects of the job.
On how they came about group formation, he said it all started when they were receiving reports of missing phones by their customers as a result of patronising fake repairers.
He pointed out, that after the formation of the group a remarkable level of sanity had returned to the place.
The Tide learnt that the demolition of some structures along the Garrison area also helped a great deal in maintaining sanity in the area as there are no longer hiding places for dubious phone repairers.
About their present stay at the Garrison junction, he said they were alright with the place, adding that the computer village at Ogbunuabali is an added advantage to their business, since cell phones and computers ventures are related.
Earlier, he had said that patronage was reasonable now as customers come from both far and near to seek for their services.
