Civil Service Moves To Domesticate Service Rules
The Rivers State Civil Service has begun moves to
domesticate the Federal Public Service Rules with the inauguration of a
five-member committee charged with the mandate to come up with a draft copy of
a Civil Service Commission Law.
Speaking while inaugurating the Committee last Friday in
Port Harcourt, the Head of Service, Barrister Samuel LongJohn said the
enactment of a Civil Service Commission Law would provide the framework for the
domestication of the Federal Public Service Rules to suit the State Civil
Service.
He cited the case of
Lagos State that have their own Civil Service Commission Law which makes
provision for the domestication of the Public Service Rules in line with the
Constitution of the Federation.
The Head of Service charged members of the Committee to
carry out the assignment diligently and submit a draft copy, which when passed
into law, would form a platform for Rivers State Public Service Rules.
He informed them of efforts being made to codify all
relevant circulars in the Civil Service to make them readily available to all
workers, and expressed the hope that by the end of the year, there would be in
place codified circulars and domesticated Public Service Rules.
Responding on behalf of members, the Chairman of the
Committee, who is also the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry
of Justice, Barrister Rufus Godwins thanked the Head of Service for finding
them worthy of the assignment and promised to do everything possible to put in
place a document that would ‘stand as a testament to his legacy’.
