NACETEM To Begin Master’s Degree Programme In Tech Management
The National Centre for Technology Management (NACETEM) is to commence a Master’s Degree programme in Technology Management before the end of the first quarter of next year.
The agency’s Director General, Dr Willie Siyanbola, made the disclosure in Abuja on Saturday at the 4th NACETEM’s Abuja Study Centre Post Graduate Diploma orientation ceremony.
He said that the programme would be undertaken in collaboration with the Federal University of Technology, Minna in Abuja and Ile-Ife, Osun.
He said that the choice of Abuja as flagship centre for the programme was due to the interest shown by Abuja residents to deepen their knowledge in Science, Technology and Innovation Management (STI).
Siyanbola observed that it took the Chinese and South Koreans less than 12 and eight years, respectively to double their national income because of their interests and knowledge of science and technology.
“We know that China is now ranked number two and Brazil number six in the world.
“One thing we have in common with these two countries is the size of our population but they anchored a lot of emphasis on science, technology and innovation technology.
The DG said that the African continent was lagging behind other continents because of a lack of knowledge of science and engineering.
The Minister of Science and Technology, Prof. Ita Ewa, commended NACETEM for its programme geared towards building the capacity of Nigerians in technology management. Ewa, represented by Mr Samson Olayemi, Director of Planing, Research and Policy in the ministry, said that no nation would develop without developing its STI system.
He noted that one of the challenges militating against the development of Nigeria’s STI system, was a lack of development of STI human capacity and infrastructure that would support the industrial sector.
“We all know that it is not enough to produce scientists and engineers; the nation must produce skilled experts that would create wealth, generate employment and add value to our national resources through strategic mapping of science and technology applications for sustainable development.
