Re-run Election: INEC Pledges To Improve On April Election
The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), says it would continue to use every opportunity of election to improve on electoral processes in the country.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Rivers State, Elder Aniedi Ikoiwak who stated this at a stakeholders interactive forum organised by INEC in Port Harcourt, ahead of yesterday’s Rivers East senatorial rerun election, assured that it would surpass the April 2011 general election in the state.
“This is to say, the rerun senatorial election on Thursday will be an improvement of the April 2011 election in Rivers State”, he said.
The commissioner said INEC might not have attained perfect election, but noted that the commission was working and committed in doing it right at every opportunity.
According to him, “we must move a step further and in a positive direction”.
Ikoiwak however assured the electorate that INEC’s task and target were always improve on its previous performances.
The REC who also informed the stakeholders that the commission was ready to conduct a credible re-run senatorial election that would be accepted by all.
Also speaking at the forum, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, Mr SuleimanAbba said policemen had been retrained for the exercise.
