Sali Harps On Public Highway Code
Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HOCSF), Alhaji Isa Sali, has called on the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) to be more proactive in educating the public on highway codes.
This was contained in a statement signed by Mr Tope Ajakaiye, the Deputy Director, (Press & Public Relations) in the office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
The statement said Sali made the call when a delegation of the commission led by Corps Marshal Osita Chidoka paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.
It quoted Sali as saying that if drivers were educated on Highway Codes, road accidents would be minimised.
“Most of our drivers are ignorant of the rules guiding driving on the highways.
“This has led to crashes when drivers manoeuvered between vehicles” the statement said.
It called on the FRSC to embark on mass distribution of the manual on Highway Codes and ensure that the codes were digested by the drivers before they were issued with driving licences.
The statement noted that Chidoka had earlier briefed Sali on the achievements of the comrmssion.
It quoted him as saying that the objectives of the corps were to reduce road accidents to the barest minimum by 2015 and make Nigeria one of the top 20 safest nations by 2020.
“The FRSC has invested heavily in ICT in order to deliver efficient and effective service to Nigerians, and keep accurate data on all vehicles through the new vehicle licence regime,” the statement added.
