RSHA Summons Commissioner, RCC, FERMA, Others
The Rivers State House of Assembly, has invited the Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Hon. Victor Giadom, Federal Road Maintenance Agency, (FERMA) and RCC Nigeria Limited, to meet with the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Otelemaba Amachree today by 2pm.
The meeting with the Speaker is to discuss the deplorable state of the section 3 axis of the East/West Road, especially within Eleme junction and Nonwa in Tai Local Government Area.
The invitation followed a joint motion sponsored by Hon. Ikunyi Ibani of Andoni Constituency and Hon. Belema Okpokiri representing Okrika Constituency, drawing the attention of the House to the poor state of the road under construction by RCC Limited.
The sponsors of the motion in their separate prayers, urged the Assembly to take decisive steps to save road users from the harrowing experience they encounter daily resulting from indiscriminate parking of tankers and lorries. The sponsors of the bill lamented that the activities of tanker drivers had resulted to loss of lives on the road. Hon. Okpokiri wondered why the Nigeria Petroleum Refining Company (NPRC) could not construct a tanker park, eight years after acquiring land for that purpose, noting that “such negligence had led to loss of lives and properties” on the affected road.
The Assembly also summoned the management of the Nigeria Petroleum Refining Company and the executive of the Tanker Drivers Union to meet with the Speaker on Monday; the Rivers State Traffic Management Authority (TIMARIV) was also directed to commence the evacuation of indiscriminately parked trailers on the road which constitute nuisance to free traffic flow.
