Group Cautions Youths Against Thuggery
The Friends of Dr Goodluck Jonathan, a support group for Jonathan’s presidential aspiration, has called on youths in Akwa Ibom to shun electoral violence in the forthcoming general elections.
The Chairman of the group, Chief Emmanuel Ekpeyo, who made the call in an interview in Eket, said the political atmosphere in the country was shifting away from violence.
Ekpeyo said that with the principle of one man, one vote promoted by Mr President, there would be no room for youths to be involved in thuggery in the polls.
He noted that the present administration in the state involved a lot of youths who are making meaningful contributions toward addressing the problems of young people.
“It is time for the youth in Akwa Ibom to know that the era of thuggery has gone, and the kind of governor we have today is so youth friendly that from the local governments, so many of the candidates are youths.
“What will the youths now ask for when we have a lot of youths in the government. From local government to the state government, commissioners, the government of the day is so youth friendly that the youths can shun thuggery.
“I promise you that there will be no thuggery throughout the April general elections. The youths of this state have come of age, and they know that time has gone when they are used and dumped,” Ekpeyo said.
He said that the performance of both Jonathan and Chief Godswill Akpabio were enough to guarantee victory in a free and fair contest.
