NGO Trains 2000 Youths On Skills Acquisition
The “Hope of future foundation”, a non-governmental organization (NGO) has so far trained 2000 youths on free skill acquisition in order to alleviate the economic burden of youths in Rivers State.
The executive director of the body, Mr Akupue Robinson, who stated this to The Tide during the formal opening ceremony of the free skill acquisition programme at Logos Ministry, Port Harcourt, said the essence of the programme was to contribute to the socio-economic development of youths in Nigeria.
According to him, the programme, which will last for three weeks, will develop the capacity of youths on leadership and entrepreneurial skills.
The courses to be taken, according to him, are catering, computer engineering and basic electrical installation/wiring.
Others include, Solar energy, GSM engineering and Beads/hat making.
“Apart from these courses to be carried out, the body has also collaborated with a Micro Finance bank to grant soft loan of N100,000 with 3 per cent interest to successful youths in the programme”, he stated.
The executive director further stated that in order to ascertain the impact of the skills acquired, a monitoring team has been put in place to check the effectives of the programme carried out by beneficiaries in the state.
Also speaking, the pastor of the church, Pastor Isaac Ikuomola advised youths to make good use of the programme.
One of the beneficiary, Miss Ominini Asimiea expressed appreciation over the opportunity given to them, adding that “I have been looking for such opportunity”.
