VC Assures Students Of Smooth Academic Programme
As academic activities resume fully today, students of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) have been reassured of positive plans that would enable them to have a seamless academic programme.
The Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Okechuku Onuchuku, gave the assurance when he spoke with newsmen in Port Harcourt.
Onuchuku said the school’s Management is determined to scale up actions towards achieving academic excellence and not to compromise same.
He said the institution under his watch will ensure that international best practices in tertiary institution management will be deployed in order to achieve the best for the students and the entire university community.
Onuchuku, who also re-emphasized his earlier resolution to protect students from all sorts of academic fraud, said the school authority will not fail to be tough on anyone found wanting.
“Our aim is to guide the students right and give them the needed attention in order to produce world class graduates, who will stand out in the labour market”, he said.
He noted that if students were allowed to acquire degrees by cutting corners they may not be fit to occupy certain posiyions in the society.
According to him, hard work and integrity should be the watch word of any student who is desirous of making life out of education.
The Economics guru said the Management will continue to identify those who have distinguished themselves both in learning and character and reward them accordingly.
“Another way to encourage hard work among the students is to recognize and honour those who are doing well. We also encourage good morals among our students. That is the way it ought to be”, he said.
It will be recalled that since Onuchuku took over the mantle of leadership of the institution, the environment has taken a better shape, including the academic elevation of its lecturers.
