Group Seeks Ex-Gov Ortom’s Suspension From PDP
A group under the aegis of Benue Peoples Democratic Party Foundation Group, (BPFG) has called on the State Working Committee, SWC, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to suspend its leader, former Governor Samuel Ortom, for alleged anti-party activities.
The group in an open letter to the SWC read to the media in Makurdi by its Coordinator, Micheal Aberagi, blamed the the poor outing of the party in the last general elections on Chief Ortom.
Aberago who recounted Chief Ortom’s strides in politics and supposed infractions, urged the SWC to “within two weeks commence disciplinary measures against Chief Samuel Ortom to save the PDP in the state.
“Specifically we request that the state working committee of the party suspend Chief Ortom and set up a disciplinary committee to handle his matter. If the SWC of the party fails to respond to this in two weeks, the National Working Committee, NWC, or any relevant body of the party at the national level should dissolve the Benue state EXCO of the party with immediate effect.
“Failure of these organs of the Party at both the state and national levels to do the needful as requested above, the entire membership of the party in the state shall be mobilized to save the party.”
But responding, the SWC, through the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Bemgba Iortyom, dismissed the existence of the group, saying that “we do not have any known group that goes by that name in the PDP. It is a pseudo-group because even the name of the sole signatory of the text is not known to us.
“We have groups in the PDP and we work with them and know their leaders but we are not aware of this one and of course, it is an ad-hoc group which has been prompted for that action.
“We urge the general public to disregard in totality that action because it is of no consequence and the procedure has not been followed even if it were an action by genuine persons or groups they still have to follow the laid down procedure. There is a due process for doing a thing of that nature.
“We also serve a note of caution to whoever may be behind this pseudo group, if such a person has any genuine grievances they know the process to follow. Come before the party properly and lay your complaints.
“PDP after the last election is going through reformation under the leadership of former Governor Ortom who remains the leader of the party and has been carrying the burden of running the party in the state.
“He has been up and doing in running the administration of the party. The State Secretariat here is surviving by the sacrificial efforts of Chief Ortom. He is doing so much, calling meetings of stakeholders and lots more.
“Of course, the Minority Leaders of the Senate are also supporting but Chief Ortom is carrying a very large chunk of that responsibility. And we feel that any group which is coming up now with such action certainly is not within the ambit of the PDP and does not mean well for the party and we caution them to desist from such acts.”

Makarfi Resigns As PDP BoT Secretary
Senator Makarfi’s resignation comes on the heels of the national convention that saw the emergence of the new Chairman of PDP, Dr Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN).
In his letter of resignation, which was addressed to the PDP BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, and made available to journalists in Kaduna on Monday evening, the former governor said, “Chairman and Members of the Board of Trustees may recall that about two months ago I had resigned as Secretary of the Board and posted same on the Board’s WhatsApp platform.
“Mr Chairman, you may also recall that you personally urged me to stay on until after a convention that produced a Chairman.”
He added that the principal reason he initially tendered his resignation then “and now, was and is still my belief that the National Chairman of the Party and Secretary of the Board of Trustees should not come from the same geopolitical zone.
“Now that a chairman has emerged from the North West, where I come from, it’s necessary to give him full space to do the needful. Accordingly, I hereby formally resign as Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party with effect from today, November 17th, 2025.”
While commending the BoT Chairman for his support during his tenure as Secretary of the Board, he stressed, “I truly appreciate the very respectful relationship between us during my period as Secretary,” adding that, “I also appreciate all Board members for their support and the good relationship that prevailed during my period as Secretary.”
Meanwhile, Dr Turaki on Monday pledged to ensure that power returns to the Nigerian people, urging the judiciary to uphold the tenets of democracy.
Dr Turaki, while giving his acceptance speech after the swearing-in of new officers at the end of the Elective Convention of the PDP in Ibadan, assured that there will be “no more impunity, no more suppression of the will of Nigerians”.
The chairman appealed to the judiciary to uphold the principles of stare decision, abiding by the decisions of the Supreme Court, and not to “willingly or unwillingly put yourselves in a situation where, rightly or wrongly, it may be assumed, correctly or incorrectly, that you are part and parcel of the process to truncate Nigerian democracy.”
According to him, the new leadership of the party would be open to listening to the yearnings of members, with a view to aligning with their will, declaring that “No more monkey dey work, baboon dey chop,” adding that “if baboon wants to chop, baboon must be seated to work.”
He noted that the PDP has maintained its original name, motto and logo, unlike the other parties that started with it, making it a recognised brand anywhere in Nigeria.
