Political Activist Slams Organised Labour Over Strike
A political activist and founder of Rivers Vanguard, Comrade George Biriowu, has slammed organised labour, especially the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over the now-suspended nationwide strike.
He stated that the organised labour took Nigerians on an ego trip simply because of their claim that the President of NLC, Mr. Joe Ajaero, was beaten in his home State two weeks before.
According to him, Joe Ajaero is not just NLC President but also a member of the Labour Party and he was in Imo State to campaign for the governorship flagbearer of his party when he had the issues he had.
“Ajaero was not in Imo State for the general good of Nigerians, nor for all Imolites”, Biriowu said.
The activist also alleged that Ajaero pushed labour into a strike that was designed to dislocate the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and warned the society to be wary of persons-cum leaders like Ajaero who place personal interests above the general well being of the society.
He pointed out that, if not for the swift intervention of the Federal Government’s negotiation team, led by the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, the strike could have gone on for many more days and compounded the unemployment situation in the country.
He explained that several job losses were recorded with young, qualified and energetic youths becoming more hopeless and a source of social dislocation and insecurity.
Biriowu, therefore, called on organised labour to sack Joe Ajaero and advised other persons in such highly sensitive positions to consider the long-term impact of likely actions before embarking on them in the future.
