MDAs In A’Ibom Bemoan Non-Funding
Akwa Ibom State Ministries , Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government have raised an alarm over their inability to access funds for effective functioning in the State.
The Tide’s investigation revealed that most of the Ministries in the State are gradually going moribund as some of them could not afford petrol and other consumables to facilitate their operations.
When our correspondent visited the State Secretariat on Thursday, it was observed that Ministries and other agencies suffered total blackout.
Speaking with our correspondent, one of the civil servants, who pleaded anonymity, lamented the situation and attributed it to neglect on the part of government, in terms of servicing government parastatals.
“For five months now, all memos and requests for funds are turned down by Commissioners.
“The commissioners also complained of paucity of funds. The governor has not approved funds for any Ministry in the State. All categories of civil servants are complaining”, the source stated.
The Tide recalls that the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly recently passed supplementary budget of N150billion, which has been signed into law by Governor Umo Eno .
Meanwhile, the state government just concluded a one-week retreat for Cabinet members at Eko Hotels, Lagos.
Eno, while briefing newsmen at Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, shortly on arrival from Lagos, explained that the retreat was organised to ensure effective implementation of the ARISE Agenda blueprint and delivering tangible sectoral developments as enshrined in the policy thrust of his administration.
His words, “ARISE AGENDA: Mapping The Future, held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos, afforded the team opportunity to distill the ARISE Agenda concept into an executable governance roadmap that will yield dividends for Akwa Ibom people”.
Eno expressed hope on his team’s readiness to deliver in accordance with set timelines to realise expected results.
“This is the first, I call it team building. If you have a team, you put them together. Even Jesus did it. Take them out, talk with them”.
