OSPAC Foils Kidnap At Rumuokwachi
Members of local vigilante, popularly called OSPAC, have foiled a kidnap attempt in Rumuokwachi Community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The collaborative efforts of OSPAC from Rumuokwachi and Ogbogoro communities helped to rescue a victim.
Dr. Andy Zighadina, whose wife survived the kidnap attempt, narrated how the kidnappers invaded his home.
While narrating his wife’s ordeal in the hands of the kidnappers to newsmen, he said, “around 7:25 pm on Sunday, I heard gun shot within my vicinity, and people running for safety.
“I asked my security the whereabouts of my wife. He said ‘madam went out to buy something’.
“People were scampering to safety of their lives amidst sporadic gunshots. In a minute, I saw her looking weak and miserable and shouting kidnappers”.
“She said the kidnappers asked her to enter their vehicle which she resisted, and that she felt on the ground, held one of the kidnappers’ leg, calling for help until the local vigilante (OSPAC) from the town intervened.
“In an attempt to run away, their vehicle broke down, but they pushed it until it started.
“While trying to run away, both Rumuokwachi and Ogbogoro (OSPAC) intercepted them, leading to a fierce gun battle, which led to the death of two (of them), but one escaped with bullet wounds, while one was caught alive and handed over to the police.
“They were fully masked in the said operation. I must commend the local vigilante for a job well done. Their timely intervention saved the situation”, he said.
He urged government at all levels to support OSPAC and other such local vigilantes to genuinely fight crime in the State.
“They are useful to the society”, he stated.
Recall that last Sunday, about 7:30pm, suspected kidnappers invaded Rumuokwachi Town in Obio/Akpor Local Government in an attempt to kidnap one Mrs. Constance Zighadina, at a popular street in the area called Gohota Street.
