Okaka FC Wins LDFA League
Okaka Football Club emerged winners of the 2023 Lagos divisional football Association (LDFA) League in their debut season as they look forward to greater achievements.
In the final match played at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium, Okaka defeated HOM Football Academy 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 full time.
In the closely fought final, Babatunde Damilola equalized for Okaka in the second half after they conceded in the first half but victory was assured in the ensuing penalties shootout.
Earlier in the regular season and road to the league crown, The Coach Adedeji Da-Silva led Okaka team had finished second in group A behind PAT FC on goals difference after both teams ended with 18 points winning six of the seven matches played and losing just one as they qualified for the Super Four playoffs alongside PAT FC.
The Lekki based team went on to beat all to come tops and HOM Football Academy placed second to set the stage for the championship game between the two.
The Nationwide League Division One (NLO) team was winning their very first trophy and they did it in style in their very first time of asking in the LDFA League.
Okaka FC will now represent LDFA in the forthcoming Eko football League later this year.
Chairman of the Club, Chief Chioma Madueke recognised how her team have progressed.
“The boys have done well and I commend them, I am joyous that we are indeed making progress and we want to stay on the right track.”
“As a new team we aim to keep moving forward as quickly as we can, we know that we will not achieve all our goals in a hurry, but we will do it step by step.”
Team manager of the Club, Bugana Tochukwu was full of joy and celebrated his players.
“The team is just about a year old and we already won the State League, I am really proud of our boys, they really shocked other teams that participated in this league”

Iwobi Optimistic On S’Eagles Qualification
Iwobi spoke to Tidesports source ahead of Nigeria’s crunch playoff semi-final against Gabon on Thursday, November 13, in Rabat, Morocco.
The 28-year-old was reacting to Nigeria’s shaky World Cup qualifying campaign that saw the Eagles finish second in Group C behind South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
“We’ve managed to rescue ourselves from the dead,” Iwobi told Tidesports source.
We know we have the players and the abilities to compete against any other country in the world.”
The Fulham star pointed to Nigeria’s star power, highlighting African Footballer of the Year winners Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen as proof of the squad’s quality.
“We have last year’s African best player (Ademola Lookman), the year before that (Victor Osimhen),” he said.
“It’ll be a shame if we don’t make it, but we have a lot of confidence. We just have to prove it to ourselves.”
Nigeria’s path to the United States, Canada and Mexico has been turbulent, with two coaches departing during the early stages of qualifying before Éric Chelle steadied the ship to steer the Super Eagles into November’s CAF playoffs.
Four nations from the continent – Nigeria, Cameroon, DR Congo and Gabon – will vie for a solitary spot to compete in next March’s inter-confederation playoffs, with a view to joining the already nine qualified African nations at the Finals.
It would mark Iwobi’s second appearance at the World Cup Finals and the Super Eagles’ first since the 2018 edition of the competition.
Back then, Iwobi featured in all three games as Nigeria was knocked out in the group stage.
