NUJ Advocates Non-Discrimination Against People With Disability
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council, has called on the society not to discriminate people with disability, but protect and respect them with all sense of humility.
The State Chairman, Stanley Job Stanley, who stated this yesterday when members of FaceCare Foundation paid a courtesy visit to the state council in Port Harcourt, advised them not to see themselves as less privileged because of their disability.
He stressed that whatever happened to them does not make them lesser persons in society as there is ability in disability.
Stanley, who noted that there is no one that is totally free from challenges, said even those who claim to be healthy are facing diverse challenges without people knowing.
The NUJ boss emphasised that no one is better than any one because of disability, as many persons with disability are doing well in their field of endevours and competing with others.
He promised that the State Council of the NUJ was ready to partner with them and ensure that their projects and targets are achieved.
Earlier, the leader of the team, Osaki Gloria Georgewill, had stated that they were at the NUJ Secretariat to see the leadership and seek ways to bring to the knowledge of the public the rights that protect the physically challenged persons.
According to her, “our project is to promote the rights and dignity of people with disabilities, as well as promote awareness and the capability and contributions of persons with disabilities in society.”
Georgewill noted that FaceCare Foundation is focused to raise awareness through society, including at the family level and to foster respect for the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities and to promote awareness of the capabilities and contributions of persons with disabilities.
