The International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA), in collaboration with I-Contact Connect Limited, has reiterated the need to mobilise support for women who have taken central roles in innovation and entrepreneurship.
The International Director of IAWPA, Amb. Chidi Ehiriodo, made this known during the celebration of World Intellectual Property Day and induction of new Eminent Peace Ambassadors in Port Harcourt, recently.
Ehiriodo, a Professor, said the theme of this year’s celebration, “Intellectual Property & Safety and Health First at Work”, centered on women who are now leading in different areas of innovative endeavours.
He noted that the tide has changed, unlike what it used to be when women were relegated to the kitchen, denied education and opportunities to achieve success.
“Women are not challenging men but they are leading. They have high capacity and are devoted, meticulous and careful in what they do.
Prof. Ehiriodo called on women not to relent, calling on “women to come up with whatever is inside of you. The world programme cannot be completed without the recognition of women and their achievements”.
To the inductees, he urged them to work and drive for peace in Nigeria, adding that the activities of the leadership has devastated the peaceful mindsets of the citizens.
In her speech, the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Women Affairs, Barr. Uchechukwu Oriri, commended the organisation for ensuring that women are projected and represented all over the world.
Oriri called on women representatives not to be intimidated by the current wind, assuring that victory is sure for women.
IAWPA International spokesman, Amb. Emmanuel Nkweke, in his speech said United Nations is doing many things to promote women, especially in the universities.
Nkweke noted that this is the second time the day is celebrated in Nigeria, adding that IAWPA, which started in 2012 is now in 120 countries of the world.
He stressed that the duty of the new inductees is to pursue and achieve peace in Nigeria and beyond, adding that ambassador positions are not given to questionable characters but people of influence who would be ready to move round the world and make impact.
One of the Ambassadors, Dr. Chelsea Onwudinjo, who is the Cheif Executive Officer of Back Home Initiative and the sales representative of Entreprenurship Village in Akure, Ondo State, said being an ambassador enables her to push for achievements.
Dr. Onwudinjo, whose husband was inducted, said the village, which is the largest in Africa and the world, would chunk out entrepreneurs and make name for the country when it is lunched in 2027, adding that serious innovative businesses have commenced in the village.
Highlights of the programme was goodwill messages from the universities in the state, awards and induction of new members.
