Rivers CP Orders Arrest Of Killers Of Police Officer In PH
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Effiong Okon, has ordered the immediate arrest of unknown gunmen who shot and killed a police officer at Marine Base junction, Port Harcourt on Good Friday, April 7, 2023.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, who confirmed the killing, said the commissioner of police has ordered full scale investigation, arrest and prosecution of the killers of the fallen police officer.
Iringe-Koko added that tactical teams and an intelligence unit have already been deployed to the area with a view to arresting the perpetrators of the crime and bringing them to justice.
She described the action of the gunmen as callous, dastardly and unacceptable to the police force, and warned criminal-minded individuals in the society to stay away from criminal activities or leave the state entirely.
Earlier, there was pandemonium around Marine Base junction when unknown gunmen attacked a police checkpoint, shot and killed one of the officers on duty on Good Friday.
The motive for the attack has not also been established, but Iringe-Koko said that the investigation would help the police determine plausible cause of action.
As at the time of this report, normalcy has returned to the area as residents and businesses are going about their normal activities without molestation or harassment.
Also, the roads in the area, which were cordoned off as a result of the incident, have been opened to human and vehicular traffic, and commercial and private vehicle drivers are now freely plying the busy roads.
