Rivers CJ Presents Certificates To Two Private ADR Arbitrators
Towards promoting the realisation of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) as effective tool for resolving disputes in the society, the Rivers State Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi, has presented certificates to two private ADR arbitrators in the state.
The essence of the private partnership was to improve the ADR ecosystem in the state and help the regular courts in the speedy trial of cases as well as offer alternative means of conflict resolution.
The two private ADR centres presented with the certificates in partnership with the state Multi-Door Court House, are Intercede Centre for Arbitration and Mediator (ICAM), and the Mediation Place, all in Port Harcourt.
Speaking at the brief ceremony held to present certificates to the two centres, the state Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi, said the partnership with the private arbitrators was provided for by Section 3, Sub-Section 9.4 of the state Multi-Door Court House of 2019.
Amadi commended the two ADR centres for passing the rigorous test and coming out successful, and advised them not to compromise in tenets of the provision of the partnership but be diligent in the discharge of their responsibilities to ensure speedy resolution of cases referred to them.
He warned that the Judiciary would not hesitate to revoke their certificates, if they were found wanting, and congratulated them on their emergence.
The state chief judge used the opportunity to call on judges to always support the ADR by ensuring that they referred cases to the RSMDC,adding that cases would be referred to the centres through the state RSMDC.
“I enjoin you to be diligent and discharge your duties without compromise; other companies, religious bodies should follow suit by coming to register.Cases will be referred to them by the regular courts through the RSMDC to avoid regular contact with the private ADR”, he stated.
Earlier, the Director, state Multi-Door Court House, Barrister Victor Nweke, commended the state chief judge for his efforts in ensuring that the centre survives despite paucity of funds.
Nweke disclosed that out of the 80 cases that came to it for resolution,42 have been resolved, adding that 27 were cases referred, while 15 were cases initiated by the centre.
The highpoint of the event was presentation of gifts to the chief judge and other judges of the state High Court for their support to RSMDC development in the state.
