IMC Sets Deadline For Club Licensing
The Interim Management Committee of the Nigeria Professional Football League has issued a deadline of November 18 to the 20 clubs for the 2022/2023 season to complete all processes of club licensing, The Tidesports source reports.
In a circular signed by the IMC’s Head of Operations, Davidson Owumi, the clubs were told that any of them “that failed to complete the club licensing requirements risks being foreclosed from participating in the 2022/23 season.”
Several circulars have been issued, including the timeline and detailed procedure on submitting to the club licensing regulations, a prerequisite for participation in the NPFL.
The last memo to clubs on this was dated October 25 and Owumi reiterated that “this should be considered the last extension of time for all concerned clubs to enable them secure licenses to participate in the new season.”
Club licensing has been made mandatory by world football governing body, FIFA and Confederation of African Football as a requirement for clubs affiliated to member federations to play professional football.
The IMC in recent weeks had set an insurance benchmark to be implemented by clubs for the sake of players in the league, just as it made moves to get the league back on television with sponsorships. The body had however not set any date for the start of a new season.
