RSG To Commission More Projects In August
Rivers State Government is to commission more projects executed by the present administration in the state by early August.
The Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, gave the hint at the Executive Council Chambers of Government House, Port Harcourt, on Saturday during the swearing in ceremony of five newly appointed Commissioners into the Rivers State Executive Council.
The Rivers State Governor, who reassured of his commitment to serve Rivers people and protect the interest of the state, disclosed that the planned inauguration of the newly completed projects would last for two weeks.
Governor Wike stated that his administration was in its final stage and urged commissioners, heads of ministries, departments and agencies in the state to begin compilation of relevant information and records covering the period of the stewardship of his administration for proper handover to his successor.
The Rivers State Governor said that the need for early preparations ahead of the May, 2023, terminal date of his administration was to forestall any excuse of lack of time on the part of relevant agencies, ministries, departments and parastatals on adequate documentations for proper handover.
He recalled that at the inception of his administration in 2015, he was denied a handover note by his predecessor.
The newly sworn in commissioners are Hon. Deinma Iyalla, assigned to the Ministry of Special Projects; Prof. Prince Chinedu Mmom to the Ministry of Education; Hon. Boma Iyaye to the Ministry Local Government Affairs; Hon. Christopher Green was given the Sports portfolio and Burabe Anea-Bari Donald was posted to the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Community Affairs.
Governor Wike, who congratulated the new Commissioners on their appointments, urged them to serve the State with a deep sense of commitment, passion, competence and make indelible imprint in their various ministries.
The governor, who acknowledged that some of them had served the State in different capacities as former commissioners and special advisers, charged them to utilize the present opportunity to further contribute to the development of the State.
Meanwhile, Governor Wike, also within the week under review, felicitated with the Muslim faithful on the celebration of Eid el Kabir.
In a statement issued by the Special assistant on Media to the Governor, Kevin Ebri, the Rivers State Governor sued for peace in the country to enhance stability and growth while urging Muslims to emulate the lifestyle of Prophet Mohammed who symbolized peace and tolerance.
Governor Wike assured Muslims and other people living in Rivers State of adequate protection of lives and property and freedom of worship as guaranteed in the Nigerian Constitution.
He urged Muslims to see the Eid el Kabir celebration as a period of sober reflection and seek devine intervention to tackle the protracted challenge of insecurity in the country.

LP Crisis: Ex-NWC Member Dumps Dumps Abure Faction
Mr Ojukwu, who recently returned to the interim National Working Committee led by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, noted that the party had 34 elected members in the House of Representatives, eight Senators, and 80 members at the state Houses of Assembly after the 2023 general elections.
“Now we lost all of them,” he said. “I don’t think we have as many as five members in the National Assembly.”
The former national officer of the LP talked to journalists in Abuja and said he chose to join the caretaker committee led by Senator Nenadi-Usman because they are now the officially recognized leaders of the Party.
“I chose to work with the caretaker committee to help save the Labour Party, for the benefit of the party. I also want to use this chance to ask my colleagues at the national, state, and local government levels to come together and help rebuild our party.
“Another election is around the corner. We lost everything we have. They have left to other political parties. So I’ll reach out to all my friends in the other group to get together and work on making this party stronger again.
“The caretaker committee has formed a reconciliation committee. Let’s come together and talk so that we can restore the first opposition political party in Nigeria.”
Mr Ojukwu, who was part of the Julius Abure’s group, said there are no more factions in the LP.
He added, “There is a court ruling, and since it is valid, the right people are in the correct positions.”
He urged Barr Abure and others to drop the legal cases they have filed because they are not helping the party.
“Litigations are killing political parties”, he said. “They’ve seen many political parties disappear because of legal battles, and the Labor Party is losing support every day, which makes me feel sad.”
Mr Ojukwu said he did not think joining the Senator Nenadi-Usman’s NWC was a betrayal of the Abure group, describing himself as “the oxygen” of that faction.
“I’m with this group because of the verdict. But I never betrayed anybody. Rather, I was betrayed,” he added.
