Advocate Tasks Council Chairmen On Dev
An advocate for good governance and public commentator, Livingstone Wechie, has challenged local government chairmen to ensure they impact on the grassroots.
Speaking during a phone-in radio programme organised by Silverbird Communications at the weekend in Port Harcourt,Wechie observed that many local government areas are still backward due to poor governance and vision by the chairmen.
“Wechie, who spoke against the backdrop of one year anniversary of the local government chairmen, said much still need to be done at the grassroots.
He stated that though most of the chairmen have fared well, majority still do not have anything to show after one year in office.
Wechie noted many local government areas have abundant natural resources that need to be utilised for the good of the rural people, but that many chairmen wait for monthly allocation.
This situation, he said, has made the grassroots less developed and resourceful.
To reverse this situation, he urged the Rivers State Government to evolve a template for the chairmen, as he commended the Governor, for showing exemplary leadership in terms of project delivery and development.
The public commentator tasked the council chairmen to emulate the Governor, so as to deliver the dividends of good governance to their people.
