Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo has reiterated the importance of family planning in the quest to improve the living standard of people.
Banigo stated this in her goodwill message in Government House, Port Harcourt, last Monday, to commemorate the 2022 World Population Day.
According to the public health physician, the state government in collaboration with implementing partners has built the capacity of health care providers in the public and private sectors to provide quality family planning services.
She urged the people of the state to take advantage of the services to improve their livelihoods, and fast-track the sustainable development of the state.
The deputy governor, who is a National and State Family Planning Champion, said the state Ministry of Health engages community structures, such as youth and community champions, community reproductive health influencers, and religious leaders, to facilitate counselling in communities and referrals to linked facilities.
July 11 each year has been set aside to commemorate World Population Day.
The theme for this year’s celebration is: “A world of 8billion: Towards a resilient future for all – Harnessing opportunities and ensuring rights and choices for all”.
