NIOB To Assess Nearly Callapsed Building
The Nigeria Institute of Building (NIOB) says it will visit the site where a four-storey building nearly callapsed at Oroworukwo, in Port Harcourt Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Chairman of NIOB, Rivers State, Builder Ugo Ohaubunwa, who stated this on Sunday, commended the safety measures taken by the Mayor of Port Harcourt, but confirmed that the institute would visit the site before commenting on the issue.
The Mayor Of Port Harcourt City Local Government Council, Sir Allwell Ihunda, was reported to have prevented a building collapse in Amadi Street, Oroworukwo Community in the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area on Sunday morning.
The Tide gathered that Ihunda intervened after he got several calls from leaders of the community that a four-storey building with penthouse under construction was on the verge of collapsing.
Sources informed The Tide that the council boss made contacts with some relevant agencies of government which responded by approving a total demolition of the building due to structural defects.
Ihunda expressed appreciation to the agencies of government that acted swiftly immediately after being contacted such as the police, NEMA, The Red Cross and Road safety.
He appealed to members of the community to co-operate with government in evacuating the debris in and around the ill-fated construction site.
