Wike Passionate About Attaining Universal Health -Banigo
Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo has said that Governor Nyesom Wike was very passionate about attaining universal healthcare for those who work and do business in Rivers State.
Banigo stated this during the 2022 First Quarterly Meeting of the Rivers State Task Force on Immunisation and Primary Healthcare, at the Government House in Port Harcourt, last Friday.
The deputy governor, who is the chairman of the task force said, “We all know how important health is, without which we cannot do anything, you cannot go to school, you cannot do business and you cannot participate in other activities, so, this meeting is very important and I am happy that you are all here”.
Banigo, who expressed appreciation to members of the task force, which cuts across various sectors, and MDAs, for their contributions, however, said we still have issues with vaccine-derivable polio circulating, even though we have attained polio eradication status, as part of the drive all over Africa.
“We still need to up our game in our childhood immunisation, in family planning services, in nutrition, making sure that we use what we have to get what we need. We still need to up our game in our COVID-19 testing, because we need to follow up on what is happening by doing more testing”, the deputy governor further said.
She said there has been a seasonal outbreak of Lassa fever, and sporadic cases of measles which the state immunisation team would deal with it, adding that vaccination campaigns and supplemental campaigns have to be undertaken to ensure we strengthen our epidemic surveillance and response team as a state.
