Group Launches Violence Campaign In Khana
Ahead of the 2023 general election, a youth-based organisation under the auspices of Rivers State Youth Federation (RSYF), Khana chapter has commenced sensitisation campaign against youth involvement in electoral violence and other anti-social behaviours.
The sensitisation campaign was flagged off at Bori, headquarters of Khana Local Government Area, at the weekend, during the formal inauguration of the newly elected executive of the Khana chapter of the Rivers State Youth Federation.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the occasion, Elder Eredor Nwako congratulated the new executive, and urged them to be proactive in their role of promoting peace and development in Khana communities.
Nwako, a community leader, pointed out that youth were mostly ensnared to violence during elections, and urged them not to make themselves vulnerable to any political trappings that would endanger their lives no matter how mouth-watering the offer.
On his part, the Chairman of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Rivers State, Chief CaskaOgosu also congratulated the new executive of the youth body in Khana, and urged them to work assiduously to ensure the prevalence of sustainable peace in Khana.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser on Youth to the Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Comrade NeekaIdemyor, pledged the support of the council authorities to the body, and urged them to work towards achieving the objectives of promoting peace in the area.
While assuring the council support to the body, he pointed out that the LGA would not hesitate to report the leadership of the body to the relevant authorities for questioning if they reneged on their constitutional obligations.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the flag-off of the anti-election violence campaign, the newly sworn in Chairman of the Khana chapter of the Rivers State Youth Federation, Comrade NeemeneKpugisi, thanked the body for giving him the opportunity to serve them.
Apart from embarking on intensive grassroots campaign against youth involvement in electoral violence,Kpugisi said the body would work with the peace committees of the various communities in Khana to promote peace in the area.
