I Have No Problem Being Eguaveon’s Assistant- Amuneke
Emmanuel Amuneke says he has no problem working as Austin Eguaveon’s assistant coach and insisted they are desperate to achieve success for the country.
Amuneke was drafted to the Super Eagles coaching crew, after their shocking exit from the African Cup of Nations in the round of 16.
Amuneke won the FIFA U-17 World Cup with Nigeria and led Tanzania to the African Cup of Nations for the first time in over 33 years.
However, his decision to work under Eguavoen as an assistant, after rejecting same role when Gernot Rohr was in charge came as surprise to many fans, who suggested they might fall out soon, due to conflicts of interest.
“Why will there be conflict of interest? The former African footballer of the year replied, when asked to react to the comment.
“We are focusing on the same goal and that’s to take Nigerian football to another level, we have same interest and that’s what will help us.
“We have to lay down an example to the younger generation and that’s what most of us who played the game in the past and are now into coaching are doing. We have a target, and we must achieve that working together as a team, so, I don’t see any conflict of interest,” he told Tidesports source..
The former Barcelona winger would be on the bench when the Super Eagles take on Black Stars of Ghana in World Cup qualifiers next month.
