House Committee Rates Saakpenwa-Kono Road High
Contrary to claims by some Ogoni youth that the Saakpenwa-Kono Road has been abandoned and substandard, the state House of Assembly Committee on Works has said that the project was on track.
The Chairman House Committee on Works, Hon. Michael Chinda, during an oversight of the project, last Tuesday, dismissed the claims, and commended the state government for the quality of work being done on the road.
Chinda also lauded the contractor, China Civil Engineering and Construction Company (CCECC) for executing high quality work on the road.
He described the claims of Ogoni Youth Federation (OYF) as unsavoury and lacking substance.
The lawmaker, who represents Obio/Akpor Constituency 2 in the state House of Assembly, spoke to newsmen shortly after site visit on the road project.
He said, “We have come to site to see things ourselves, and we have gone through the stretch of the project, and we have come to the conclusion that CCECC has ensured standard, and we commend them.”
He appealed to the communities along the project site to support effort in the project delivery, while warning miscreants to steer clear in order for the contractor to deliver on time.
Chinda said distractions can make the contractor delay, hence the need for cooperation to beat the dry season to fasten the pace of work.
The House Committee chairman also urged government engineer supervising the project to liaise with the committee and report any setback, as he expressed hope that the project would be completed in record time.
