Association Plans Award On Governor Wike
The Poultry Association of Nigeria, Rivers State says it plans to bestow a special award on Governor Nyesom Wike during its planned visit to Government House this month.
Chairman of the association, Mr Bestman Ugwechi Wokele said this in an interview with The Tide shortly after being conferred with an Outstanding Alumnus Award by the Faculty of Agriculture, Rivers State University (RSU), Port Harcourt.
Wokele said the proposed award is in view of the enormous contributions of Governor Wike to the development of the poultry industry in the state and the entire agricultural sector of the state.
He said Governor Wike has not only assisted poultry farmers, as his infrastructural revolution has increased massive investment in both agriculture and the other sectors of the economy.
The chairman said the effort of the Governor in this direction has created a brighter future for animal scientists in the state.
Wokele said the situation has improved the protein diet of every family in the state.
He however stressed the need for policies to abolish multiple taxation by assisting farmers to contain bird flu and making provision for disinfectants for farmers in the state.
Wokele commended Governor Wike for the empowerment of farmers through the provision of infrastructural projects, adding that Rivers poultry farmers will add another feather to the Cap of Governor Wike when they visit Government House this month.
The chairman, who commended the Faculty of Agriculture Rivers State University for the award, said it will serves as an inspiration to upcoming animal scientists in the state and the country at large.
In his address, the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Rivers State University, Prof. Nkalor Hudson Ukima said the awardees deserve the recognition of the faculty in view of their contributions to agricultural production in the state.
Ukima in said they had also distinguished themselves as working Ambassadors of the faculty at the university, adding that the award will serve as a motivation for future graduates of the faculty to put in their best in their chosen career.
He listed some “challenges of the faculty to include lack of staff in some key areas and lack of modern agricultural equipment.
