Sekibo Lauds Oil Firm Over Community Dev Projects
The Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Hon. Rowland Sekibo has lauded the management of Newcross E & P Limited, operator of NNPC/Newcross Joint Venture in OML 24, for embarking on host community projects in Kula community as part of its corporate social responsibility, describing the gesture as a right step in the right direction.
The chairman, who was the guest of honour at the commissioning of the six classroom blocks at Freetown (Kula), a one-storey guest house and auditorium with a seating capacity of about 1,000 at Kula main-town, constructed by Newcross E & P Limited, maintained that fostering a compatible relationship between investors and host communities was fundamental in guaranteeing a business-friendly atmosphere.
He further enjoined other multinational corporations in the area to imbibe the attitude of directly interfacing with host communities to avert hostilities and to accept their corporate social responsibility as an important part of service delivery to the people.
Sekibo while commissioning the projects, pledged to take over the remuneration of the teachers and staff of the newly built school as part of his administration’s commitment to promoting quality education in the LGA.
He assured them that the council would undertake to equip the newly built auditorium with fixtures and furniture.
The Tide learnt that the auditorium would serve as a meeting point for social and corporate engagements in the community.
Affirming that business can only thrive where there is peace and security, Sekibo reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing an enabling environment that would attract investors to Akuku-Toru Local Government Area.
He assured all those engaged in legitimate businesses within the LGA of the council’s support and readiness to partner with them in promoting the social-economic growth of the people.
The chairman was received by the Kula Council of Chiefs, CDC members, compound heads, youth leaders, the management of Newcross E&P Ltd., and representatives of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
He was accompanied by former Chairman, Petroleum Task Force, Rivers State, Comrade Kenneth Dan Opusingi, and some political appointees.
