MWAN Decries Anti-Women, Girls Practices
The Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria, (MWAN) Rivers State branch, says women who are critical stakeholders of the society are also the worst affected by the negative impacts of physical and sexual abuse.
The Tide reports that to stem the ugly trend, 25th of November which is the international Day of Elimination of Violence Against Women and the 10th of December which is Human Right Day are referred to, as the 16 days of activism against Gender Based Violence, (GBV).
President of MWAN in the state, Dr Omosivie Maduka made this known in a statement to mark the 16 days of activism against Gender Based Violence (GBV).
Dr. Maduka said the association bore a special burden to respond to violence against women and girls.
Dr Maduka added that they would be focusing in line with this year’s theme, prevention of GBV within the tertiary educational institution in the state.
He said young person’s would be trained and empowered as GBV prevention champions and advocates.
