Prioritise Girl Child Education, Banigo Urges Parents, Others
Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo has urged parents and guardians to prioritise the education of the girl child.
Banigo stated this in a goodwill message in Government House, Port Harcourt, last Monday, to commemorate the 2021 International Day of the Girl Child.
According to the deputy governor, “One sure way to improve the educational status of the society is by prioritising girl child education”.
Banigo, who noted that the education-loving Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has invested massively in the education sector to reverse the backward trend education had suffered in the recent past, stressed that “When you educate the girl child, you have educated the nation”.
She said in line with the theme of this year’s celebration: “Digital Generation, Our Generation”, the girl child must be encouraged to be creative in arts, in ICT, in the sciences; technology, engineering and mathematics, to enable them fulfill their God given destinies.
It would be recalled that October 11, every year is set aside to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child.
