Ndigbo Stalwart Blames Violence On Herders Infiltration
A former President of the Igbo Community in Calabar, Fidelis Obi Onyebueke, says there would not be any violence in Nigeria if there were no herdsmen.
Onyebueke who stated this while speaking with The Tide in Calabar, stated that it is believed that the current insecurity and violence perpetrated in the country was the infiltration of herdsmen in all nooks and crannies of Nigeria.
“If there were no herdsmen harassing people, there wouldn’t have been any violence, burning of police stations, killing and destruction of properties in the country.
“When the herdsmen came up with the style of carrying AK47 rifles and killing people, starting from Benue it escalated the issue of violence in the country.
“If it was properly managed as it was done during the time of Obasanjo, even Jonathan we wouldn’t have had these issues, there were herdsmen during Obasanjo regime, they never lost control as they are doing now in Buhari’s tenure.
“I can’t understand, I do hope that the Federal Government will sit up otherwise what happened in the South East may lead to the breakdown of law and order and those boys they are afraid of will be armed.
“If the society is lawless there will be arms and when there are arms there will be a breakdown of law and order, that is my fear. The Southwest is clamouring for Oduduwa Republic, South East and the IPOB are clamouring for the Biafra Republic,” he pointed out
Chief Onyebueke who is the Grand Patron of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Cross River State and a lawyer by profession said, “To me, I can’t understand, that Federal Government, with all its power cannot manage security. It pains me.
“Let me tell you, 2015, I was one of those in Cross River State that stuck my neck for Buhari bearing in mind his military background. I fell out with many Igbos but I said, a man with a military background will do better than Jonathan and he started very well but suddenly, to my own mind, he was hijacked by few people,” he said.
