#EndSARS: CRSG Orders Restriction Of Trucks Ferreting Scraps
The Cross River State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, has ordered total restriction of movement of scrap trucks from the State to other states; just as the curfew in the State is about a week now.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Christian Ita, the governor said the attention of the governor has been drawn to information that looters are attempting to move stolen items out of the state as scraps.
“It has come to the attention of the governor that in a desperate bid to escape arrest, criminals and their masterminds who callously looted government and private property have now resorted to moving such items out of the state disguised as scraps.
“Consequently, the government, hereby places an immediate ban on the transportation of scraps of all categories out of the state”, the statement further said.
The governor directed all transporters and motorists in the state to report anyone that approaches them to move scraps out of the state to security agents, warning that any of them caught transporting looted items will be regarded as an accomplice and treated as a looter.
Governor Ayade recalled that following massive looting and destruction of public and private property and businesses in Calabar by hoodlums the looters may flee out of the state.
Meanwhile, the suspected ringleader (name withheld), who allegedly led the looting and vandalisation of the Calabar International Conference Centre (CICC) at the weekend, has been arrested in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.
The suspect, who is an automobile mechanic, was arrested by the police at Esuk Otu behind NTA Calabar, Calabar Municipal Local Government Area of the State, with various items reportedly belonging to CICC.
The Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr Abdulkadir Jimoh, who spoke to newsmen, said that the suspect was arrested with some items allegedly stolen, including chillers, over 1000 pieces of customised chairs, customised designer carpets, among others.
“We arrested the suspect based on actionable intelligence during the house to house search which started on Sunday in the State,” he said.
