Labour Party Urges Wike To Pay Minimum Wage
The candidate of the Labour Party in the March 19 governorship elections in Rivers State, Chief Isaac Wonwu has called on the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, to urgently pay civil servants in the state the Federal Government-approved minimum wage of N30,000.
Making the call yesterday in Port Harcourt at a press briefing, Wonwu said the minimum wage is long overdue.
The Labour Party Governorship standard bearer also urged the Governor to constitute the State Executive Council, saying that there is the urgent need to properly constitute the state executive council.
“The Governor should also initiate proactive measures aimed at developing robust industrialization and mechanized agricultural projects to boost food production in the state and revisit the Greater Port Harcourt City project with a view to decongesting the city’.
Commending the State Governor for flagging off three flyover bridges construction in the state, the chieftain of the Labour Party advised that the second term mandate given freely by the people of the state should be used to uplift the state rather than taking it for granted. According to him, the Labour Party would continue to support the state government as the right thing is done, but would not abdicate its function of providing viable opposition.
Chief Wonwu called on the Rivers State House of Assembly to enact a law stopping youths, communities and groups from disrupting business activities or projects in their area.
Insisting that the Governor constitutes a committee to develop a blueprint for the infrastructural and economic development of the state, Chief Wonwu noted the need for the state government to collaborate with the Federal Government to reactivate the business activities of the Sea Port, saying that “the time of politics is over, all hands must on deck to move the state forward”.
