The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), has commended the order of President Muhammadu Buhari for a forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission( (NDDC)
The group made its stance public recently in a communique it issued at the end of a retreat it held at Uyo in Akwa Ibom State.
It demanded that accounts from 2001 to 2019 should be audited together with names of beneficiaries of contracts of the commission over the period under review and they should be made public.
In addition, it also insisted that for NDDC to function effectively, there must be adequate funding and less political interference.
The body called on the president to extend the order of audit to other national interventionist organisations like the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PDTDF).
Calling on the need to restructure the nation, the pan Niger Delta body, urged the Federal Government to begin a constructive dialogue towards ensuring that there is process towards achieving an equitable polity.
Extolling the support of two non-governmental organisations operating in the Niger Delta region, Academic Associates PeaceWorks Niger Delta Dialogue and Stakeholder Democracy Network, for facilitating the programme, the body reiterated the steadfast pursuit of shared interests along with promoting understanding and peaceful co-existence amongst the various ethnic nationalities of the region.
