Six Regain Freedom From Kidnapper’s Den In Adamawa
Six persons, including five herdsmen, kidnapped from Boro Wadu, a Nigerian town along the border with Cameroon, by armed men eight days ago have regained their freedom after the payment of N4.4million ransom.
Boro Wadu is located in the Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
A relative of one of the victims, Dahiru Gurin, confirmed this development in an interview with newsmen in Yola, yesterday.
He said the five herdsmen were among the captives set free in the early hours of yesterday following the payment of ransom by the victims’ families.
Gurin stated, “We had been in the bush since morning and just returned with all the kidnapped victims after their release.
“The total amount paid by the families of the victims summed up to N4.4m.”
Our correspondent reported that six herdsmen from Gurin, another border town, who were grazing their cattle, were ambushed and abducted by heavily armed gunmen at Boro Wadu.
Their abductors earlier released one of the captives to return home and convey news of the abduction and the demand for ransom.
A ransom of N60m was earlier demanded for the release of the captives but intense negotiations brought it down to N4.4m.
Another source, who gave a breakdown of how the payment was made, said the family of two of the herdsmen, who are siblings, raised N1.5m, while three members of another family paid N2.4m and the family of another victim, who was not initially among the captives, paid N500,000.
While confirming the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Suleiman Nguroje, said detectives were on the trail of the kidnappers.
He expressed confidence that they would soon be caught and brought to justice.
