Zamfara APC Crisis Deepens
Few weeks to the 2019 general elections, the crack in the house of the All Progressives Congress ( APC ) in Zamfara State deepens as the Senator representing Zamfara Central, Senator Kabiru Marafa Thursday , called on President Muhammadu Buhari to shelve his planned Zamfara presidential rally scheduled for Sunday .
Speaking to the Press, in Abuja, Marafa said that holding the rally in Zamfara is like dignifying Governor Abdulaziz Yari accused of ruining the chances of the APC in the state .
Marafa who has never hidden his deep hatred for the state governor since the tussle for power between them started, said he would rather advice the party not to waste their time coming to Zamfara.
“I will do everything possible to convince Mr President not to go for the Presidential rally slated for Gusau in Zamfara State on Sunday and if I failed in achieving that , it means my faction of the APC in the State , will hold a separate rally for the President .
“ My faction of the party , will not attend a rally where the governor would be part of , being the architect of the crisis rocking the party in the state as a result of illegal primary elections he conducted”, he said.
Senator Marafa, however commended the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) for standing by its earlier position on the rejection of all the Zamfara APC candidates.
Recall that the commission in a statement last Wednesday by its National Commissioner in charge of Information and Voter Education, Barrister Festus Okoye said, “ the commission has decided to maintain its original position that the party in question did not conduct primaries, therefore, in line with Section 87 of the Electoral Act of 2010 ( as amended), not eligible to field candidates”.
