University Unveils Dev Blueprint
Rivers State-owned Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUOE) has unveiled a five-year infrastructural development plan.
According to the Director of the University Advancement Centre, Prof. Lysias Dodd Gilbert, the plan is tagged, “Capital Campaign: Expanding Possibilities for Global Impact” and is aimed at affirming the status of the institution as one of the best in the country.
The blueprint he further explained will be driven with the 10th year anniversary celebrations of the university later in the year, Prof. Gilbert hinted last weekend.
“We would be 10 years as a full-fledged university,” Prof. Gilbert said “so we are networking with so many bodies in both private and public sectors towards repositioning the school to achieve its set objectives.”
The Director of the university advancement centre admitted that though the school is still young in terms of operating independently, it has over the past 10 years achieved a lot of milestones academically.
“As a university we are young, but as a college of education we are very old going back to 1972 when the college started operating,” he said.
Throwing more light on the University Capital Campaign Master plan, he maintained that the five year project will cover power supply, research, student alumni, professional advancements, staff and student accommodation.
He added, “as you can see government cannot do everything, and no university dwell only on one source of funding. We need third party funding to further consolidate on our achievements so far.”
The university don commended Salvation Ministries for pledging to construct a hostel for the university, as he urged other private bodies to emulate the gesture.
Also, he hinted that Monier Construction Company (MCC) has promised to provide scholarships for students, including landscaping and construction of internal roads in the school’s campus.
