NDLEA Nabs 39 Drug Peddlers, Raids Abia Communities
Barely seven days to the nation’s general elections, no fewer than 39 persons have been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Abia State in connection with illegal peddling of hard drugs.
The agency also said it raided five towns in the state to arrest the notorious hard drug peddlers so as to sanitise the state from illicit drugs
NDLEA, while giving the breakdown of the numbers of the suspects said, five women and 34 male adults were arrested by the command in the last three months.
Disclosing this to newmen in Abia State last Wednesday, the commander of the agency in the state, Mr Bamidele Akingbade, said the raid and arrest of the suspects took place between December 2018 and February 2019, adding that those involved included 34 males and five females.
Akingbade in a statement to The Tide listed towns raided to include Umuahia, Aba, Ohafia, Arochukwu and Isiukwuato areas of the state.
He said drugs ranging from cannabis, skunk cannabis, cocaine, heroin and other psychotropic substances were found on them.
Other things found on the suspects, according to him were stimulants and depressants like tramadol, rophenol, diazepam, benelyn and codeine
The NDLEA Commander said the agency also recovered eight locally made single and double barrel guns and one pistol from one of the suspects.
He said the command initiated the raids across the state with the intention to keep the state safe prior to the upcoming general elections.
