Amaechi Behind Removal Of NDDC’s Executive Director -Group
The apex socio-political organisation in Ogoni land, KAGOTE has kicked against the removal of the former Executive Director, Finance and Administration (EDFA) of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Derek Mene, describing it as an injustice to the Ogoni people.
KAGOTE is an acronym, meaning Khana, Gokana, Tai and Eleme, the four local government areas that make up Ogoni land.
The group specifically accused the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi orchestrating Mene’e removal, wondering what he has against the Ogoni people.
President General of Kagote, Dr. Peter Medee who stated this during a Radio programme on Monday in Port Harcourt said Mene’s removal from office was another indication that the Ogonis are being marginalised even when the ex-EDFA’s tenure has not expired.
It would be recalled that the NDDC board was dissolved recently by the Presidency, following the resignation of the agency’s former Managing Director, Nsima Ekere, who is seeking governorship position in Akwa Ibom State.
Medee said “In an event where the Managing Director resigned we have seen it before that the most official will take over as acting MD. And Mr. Derek Mene is the most senior of the appointees that ought to take over. So why did he not take over? Why was he removed?
“It is a tenured appointment meaning that it is supposed to be four years. Why is it that after two years he is being removed? If he is being removed for maybe a seeming crime which we may not know, why is it that no other Ogoni even working with those who removed him was found to replace him?”
