AAC Senatorial Candidate Donates 1,000 Books To Delta College Of Education
The African Action Congress (AAC) candidate for Delta North Senatorial District, Mr Smart Ajaja, has donated over 1,000 books covering various areas of study to the College of Education, Agbor, Delta State.
Ajaja said at the official presentation of the books on Wednesday in Agbor that the existing challenges in the education sector of the country prompted the gesture.
He said, “It is in my bid to fight ignorance in the country that I decided to join in the political race as a senatorial candidate of the AAC to represent Delta North in the forthcoming elections.
“I am a registered nurse in the US, a writer, an entrepreneur and a human and environmental right activist with emphasis on socio-economic, civil and environmental justice.
“I live in the United States, I have been in the news in Nigeria for about eight years and one area that I have discovered that we have serious problem in Nigeria is education.
“In the US, I happen to run a business that had to do with education and I had access to instructional materials and I have been thinking about what to do to advance the course of education in Nigeria.
“And when the opportunity came, I had a shipment of books to donate to Nigeria and I decided to ship the books to the College of Education, Agbor.
“The books numbering over 1,000 are drawn from various disciplines including science and technology, mathematics, arts, social sciences, medicines and nursing, real books for instruction and learning in the 21st century.
“It is my pleasure that I have this opportunity to formally hand over these books to the institution, these are books for the professors, students and anyone interested in research in the state and across the country’’.
Receiving the books, the College Provost, Dr Joseph Ukadike, thanked the donor and called on other Nigerians to emulate him.
He promised that the books would be deployed to the school library for immediate use of the college community.
