2019: Rivers Communities Warn INEC Against Election Postponement
The forum of Community Development Committees in Rivers State has warned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against yielding to the calls to postpone the general elections in the state.
The Coordinator General, United Community Development Committee (UCDC), Rivers State, Mr John Onwubualili who said this at inauguration of the Ahoada East Central Community Development Committee at Ahoada described the calls as selfish and barbaric.
He said that the interest of few individuals could not override the interest of the generality of the people, stressing that those making such calls are enemies of the people.
He also stressed for the people of Ekpeye to reciprocate the kind gesture of Governor Wike who has embarked on several projects in the area by voting him back to the Brick House.
The coordinator general also charged the Ahoada Central Community Development Committee to always liaise with the Community heads to promote peace in their various communities.
He also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure that the forthcoming elections is free and fair.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Ahoada East Local Government Area, Barrister Benjamin Eke urged the Ahoada Central CDCs to work with the council to promote peace in the various communities.
The Chairman who was represented by his Deputy, Dr (Mrs) Rose Ololube also said that the council would support any community in the area that initiated meaningful development project.
Earlier, the state Deputy Coordinator General of UCDC, Chief Sunday Hyacinth Ogbo had called on the security agencies not to take side during the elections.
