Clean Up: ‘We’ll Resist Military Deployment To Ogoniland’
The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has said that it would resist any plan by the Hydro Carbon Pollution Remediation Project’s (HYPREP) to deploy soldiers to Ogoni land for the purpose of a clean-up exercise.
This is MOSOP, umbrella body of the Ogoni people alleged that the planned military deployment to the area for the clean-up maybe a disguise for the purposes of the forthcoming general elections.
Factional President of MOSOP, Fegalo Nsuke stated this while addressing some Ogoni youths in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Nsuke stated that there was no justification to contemplate any military deployment to the area, saying the people have already embraced the United Nation’s Environment Programme (UNEP) report on the Ogoni environment and the cleanup exercise.
He stated that the only area of disagreement was the Hydro Carbon Pollution Remediation Project’s (HYPREP) attempt to shortchange the interest of the Ogoni people.
