Tension In Delta Community Over Murder Of 50-Year-Old Man
Palpable tension has enveloped Oghara community in Ethiope West Local Government area of Delta State following the alleged ritual murder of a 50-year-old man identified as Segun Oke, by suspected ‘Yahoo Yahoo boys’ in the area.
It was gathered that the victim, a motorcycle rider, was allegedly murdered last Wednesday evening by the suspected cyber fraudsters who stabbed him in his chest outside his house where he was said to have been taking fresh air following power failure.
Oke, before he was allegedly stabbed to death, was said to have had an altercation with the suspects prior to Wednesday evening somewhere in a club house, after which they traced him to his house and murdered him.
Eyewitness, Edward Makpor, who spoke to journalists in Oghara community, said, “Segun rode Okada in the community and he was the second person to have been killed in the same way by these suspected fraudsters in the community and in one month in the area. The suspects visited him in his house where he was relaxing and stabbed him in the chest and he died instantly. He had a quarrel with them before the wednesday and called them names.”
Reacting to the incident, the executive chairman of the local government council Mr Solomon Golly said, “it’s unfortunate that the incident happened, but we are not relenting, I want to assure Oghara indigenes that there are measures put in place to fish out the perpetrators.”
Speaking to journalists in Asaba, the Police Commissioner in the state, Mustafa Muhammad said, “investigation is ongoing to fish out the perpetrators.
The police arrested two persons for a similar incident and they will be charged to court on completion of investigation. The police have repositioned to fish out the hoodlums in the area. Oghara community is almost a flash point for hoodlums but I want to assure you that under my command, it will be no longer business as usual for hoodlums.”
