Top 10 Naija Artistes Who Starred In Nollywood
Entertainment is an art and a form of amusement, little wonder that many artistes often cross from their original field and venture into acting all to various levels of success. Here are top 10 Nigerian music stars who have featured in Nollywood movies so far.
Simi: Off her successful album and girl-next-door persona, Simi has been slated for a role in Kunle Afolayan’s forth coming movie titled ‘mokalic’. It has been apparent from her videos ‘Soldier’ for example that she has some acting skills.
Peter Okoye: Even though the group has been disclosed, this man is one of our favourite twins ever, after all the years of sold out shows and albums, Peter Okoye of p-square with several albums was cast in the forthcoming movie ‘Lion Heart”, directed by top Nollywood actress Genevieve Nnaji who also made her directorial debut with the movie.
Falz: Is there anything Falz cannot do?
He asked himself on a song with Davido and Olamide, which other musicians do you know that won an AMVCA? Falz’s character as ‘Seye’ in Jenifa’s Diary was unforgettable, surely fans would be looking forward to seeing him again in a move.
Banky W: Fans didn’t know it at the time but Banky’s life was showcased when he played the lead character in “The Wedding party”. The move was so great that they got paid twice and then did a sequel. Obviously , he’s been taking a few lessons from Mrs W.
Chidinma: Every one’s favourtite, Chidinma Ekine also known as “Miss Kedike launched into the music industry after she emerged winner of the reality show, MTN project fame. She also made her big break to the big screen with the move ‘The Bridge’. She played the lead role along side other top Nollywood actors.
Phyno: Phyno’s career may have started as a producer, rapper and later singer, but he has made the transition into an actor in Genevieve Nnaji’s movie, Lion Heart:
Davido: In 2015, Davido got a minor role in the movie ‘John Zerebe’, but when you consider his several music videos and love for snap chat it’s clear that he’s camera ready.
Ice Prince: Ice Prince also broke into Nollywood with the movie, ‘Heart of Gold’ in 2013. He also started in an edition of MTV ‘Shuga’ recently.
Tiwa Savage: Marvin Records first Lady Tiwa Savage has also featured in the Nollywood space with the series and came appearance on J.
2Baba Idibia: Legendary Nigerain artiste, Innocent Idibia is not left out here, as the popular musician has many feathers to his cap including acting. 2 Baba featured alongside Omawunmi and Denrele in the movie “Make a Move”.

They Booed, Threw Bottles At Me – Tems Recounts
R&B star, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has recounted the early-career challenges she faced, revealing that she was once booed out of the stage while performing at a school event.
Speaking in an interview with Newsmen, the Crazy Tings crooner shared that she wasn’t only booed but was also harassed with plastic bottles.
“I remember one time I was going to perform at my school as an up-and-coming singer and I thought I was going to receiving a standing ovation.
“But I got booed. They even threw plastic bottles at me,” she recalled.
Tems explained that despite the embarrassing incident and other such rejections, she remained determined to pursue a career in music.
The Tide Entertainment reports that Tems admitted that some of the initial rejections she faced could be due to her conviction to stick to her originality instead of doing covers or familiar sounds like most of her peers.
The Grammy-winning singer said looking back now, she is glad that she didn’t compromise her style despite the initial pressures.

Primeboy Pleads For Mohbad’s Burial
A close associate of late singer Mohbad, Primeboy, has appealed for the artiste’s burial nearly three years after his death.
According to him, Mohbad’s body remains in the mortuary since September 12, 2023, pending burial arrangements.
The Tide Entertainment reports that in a statement Primeboy urged the family, public, and government to permit the burial, stating, “It’s been almost three years since Mohbad left us. His body is still in the mortuary. I’m begging the family, I’m begging the public, I’m begging the government, please let’s bury our brother. He deserves a befitting burial.”
It would be recalled that Mohbad’s death sparked public outrage, protests, and investigations. Ongoing autopsy examinations, police inquiries, and legal proceedings have delayed burial arrangements amid family disagreements and public scrutiny.
