RSG Commends Oil Firm Over Youth Empowerment
The Rivers State Government says it is ready to partner with Total E & P Limited for the development of youths in the state even as it planned to launch a programme that will change the attitude of the youths for improvement.
The Director, Youth Affairs and Development in the Ministry of Youth and Development, Mr Ruhuoma Chinedu Kejeh, who stated this during the graduation ceremony of the 13th Batch trainees under the NNPC/TEPNG joint venture skills acquisition training program in Port Harcourt, on Wednesday disclosed that the state government is to launch an initiative ‘Rewriting the Narratives’ soon to change the idea and perception of Rivers youths.
Chinedu noted that Rivers State youths are believed to be militants, criminals and lazy and would not want to work, explaining that the present administration led by Chief Nyesom Wike was working assiduously to see that this narratives is changed.
According to her, “this administration will ensure that Rivers youths are placed on global economy and compete favourably with other youths in the world.
“I commend Total E & P Limited for carrying out this programme and the courage and resources to carry out her social responsibility to her host communities. I believe we are going to start a conversation that will take us to another levels’’, she said
She revealed that the Ministry of Youths and Development was triggered to Rewrite the Narratives with the vision of the present administration to ensure that majority of Rivers youths are skilled and have relevant certificates to work in the oil and gas sector.
“Rivers State Government does not want our youths to be roasting fish with fire wood while others are roasting fish with electricity, we shall make agriculture attractive to our youths”, she said.
