Motorists Lament State Of PH- Oyigbo Road
Road users plying Port Harcourt-Oyigbo road in Rivers State have called for immediate intervention by government on the deplorable condition of the road to ease transportation difficulties.
This follows the series of traffic accidents caused by the present deplorable condition of the road on a devilry basis.
Speaking to The Tide on the condition of the road, Chairman, Oyigbo Loading Bay at Oyigbo express junction, Mr Chinedu Michael called on government to carry out temporary maintenance work on the road pending when contractors would be fully mobilised to site.
He said, though part of the road was under construction, but there was need to maintain some areas like Intel Bus-stop and low-gate area that was in deplorable state.
Michael said, last week over 15 vehicles including tankers and trailers broke down, blocking a lane of the road. He said the situation got worsen any time it rained heavily in the area, and if nothing is done urgently the deplorable condition of the road would claim lives during the rainy season.
A taxi driver plying Oyigbo-Port Harcourt, Gideon Onwubiko said the condition of the road has caused untold hardship to passengers coming from Oyigbo and Aba for their daily businesses and work in Port Harcourt.
Onwubiko said, due to the bad road, taxis could not run the area, saying that over 28 vehicles broke down on the road during the three days rain in the area.
Another road user, Emeka Ikechukwu expressed fear that people living in Oyigbo might have serious challenges in their work place and business this coming rainy season, if nothing tangible is done on the road.
He called on the contractor company (CECC) handling the road presently to find alternative routes for motorist, while the construction of the road is ongoing.
