Rita Dominic Replies Obaseki’s Open Letter
Few days ago, Nollywood screen diva, Rita Dominic slammed Nollywood producers on Instagram saying that not all movies should be allowed to go to cinemas, stressing that some producers should make their movies for the DVD and places like Iroko TV and Ibaka TV.
The statement did not go well with some producers including award winning film maker, Don Pedro Obaseki, who has taken to Instragram to write an open letter to Rita Dominic reminding her of her past when she used to sweat in 2003 roaming from one set to the other. Obaseki further warned Rita not to be like the proverbial bird “Chichidodo” in Ayikwe Amah’s novel that hated shit but feeds only on maggot from shit.
The actress took to the social media last Sunday to calm down the tension generated by her previous comment. Her words: “I wanted to post a video, but it was too long ago, so I opted for a long post.
“A couple of days ago, I posted a quote to motivate active members of my beloved industry, you decided to build a nice big table there, gathered us on top and shook it till we all had to pay attention. It became apparent rather quickly that you have been fed up for a while.
“Guess What!! I have heard you, as an actor I have heard you, as a producer, I will do better, I have never been one not to listen to constructive criticism, so, it is to my advantage to listen again, thanks to the colleagues who called me, tweeted, sent messages and even braced commenting while the table is shacking vigorously.
Glad you understood the intension of my post, we are building a cinema culture and we cannot do it without our audience, they have spoken and I have a better grasp of their frustrations. It is a positive thing to have our customers emotionally invested in our films.
I want to request that our viewers do not give up on going to the cinemas to support films.
If a film is good, encourage the film makers by telling others to see it, you have an important role to play in the development of the Nigerian film industry and you have taken the first step by letting your voices be heard”.

They Booed, Threw Bottles At Me – Tems Recounts
R&B star, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has recounted the early-career challenges she faced, revealing that she was once booed out of the stage while performing at a school event.
Speaking in an interview with Newsmen, the Crazy Tings crooner shared that she wasn’t only booed but was also harassed with plastic bottles.
“I remember one time I was going to perform at my school as an up-and-coming singer and I thought I was going to receiving a standing ovation.
“But I got booed. They even threw plastic bottles at me,” she recalled.
Tems explained that despite the embarrassing incident and other such rejections, she remained determined to pursue a career in music.
The Tide Entertainment reports that Tems admitted that some of the initial rejections she faced could be due to her conviction to stick to her originality instead of doing covers or familiar sounds like most of her peers.
The Grammy-winning singer said looking back now, she is glad that she didn’t compromise her style despite the initial pressures.

His body is still in the mortuary. I’m begging the family, I’m begging the public, I’m begging the government, please let’s bury our brother. He deserves a befitting burial.”
