Nigerian Legion Empowers 23 LG Chairmen
The Rivers State chapter of the Nigerian Legion has released the sum of N1million to the chairmen of the body in each of the 23 local government areas of the state as part of efforts to improve the welfare of legionnaires and dependents of fallen heroes.
Disbursing the funds, amounting to N23million to the LG chairmen of the legion in Port Harcourt, recently, the Sole Administrator of the legion in the state, Justice Ogborun Chichi said that the gesture was in fulfillment of his promise to empower the legionnaires at the grassroots in line with the state government’s policy.
Chichi charged the legionnaires to complement government efforts by helping to maintain the peace and check violence and insecurity in their areas, and challenged them to make judicious use of the funds to justify the confidence reposed in the leadership of the legion by the state government.
In his remarks, current Interim Chairman of Ogu/Bolo chapter of the Nigerian Legion, Major Samuel Ibisiki appealed to all the 23 local government area chairmen to help tighten security in their areas to avoid any security breaches at all times, saying that the legion’s leadership was alarmed by the reported threats to the life of the sole administrator by unknown persons.
He pledged to judiciously use the N1million released to his LGA to build a secretariat and to better the lot of members of the legion in Ogu/Bolo.
Speaking at the chairmen stakeholders’ forum, Gokana LGA, Secretary, Adolphus Brown insisted that the issue of insecurity should be checked with the seriousness it deserves, and charged members to go to their respective LGAs and spread the good news of the positive impact recorded by the new state leadership of the legion.
“We have never had it so good like this. It is because of the vision and innovation brought to the legion. What I am seeing now has given me courage to work as a legionnaire,” he said.
Speaking also, a member of the caretaker committee, Asari Toru, Captain Sokari Braide commended Chichi, while
